PORT OF SPAIN, Trinidad, March 19 - India’s record World Cup victory over Bermuda was ideal preparation before their must-win final Group B tie against Sri Lanka, skipper Rahul Dravid said on Monday.
India defeated the World Cup debutants by a record one-day margin of 257 runs after piling up 413 for five, the highest
total in the tournament’s 32-year history. Bermuda were 156 all out.
“The margin gets us into the picture,” said a relieved Dravid. “We achieved what we wanted to.”
India were in disarray after Bangladesh shocked them by five wickets on Saturday, leaving the 2003 finalists one defeat away from a first-round exit.
They still need to score a convincing victory on Friday against Sri Lanka, seen as title contenders.
